Mamita Eloisa

Mamita Eloisa was born in Cotacachi and moved to Quito, Equador where she lived the rest of her life.
She didn’t go to school, but taught herself to read and write.
She loved gardening and used her herbs to heal others.
She was a great soprano – a beautiful and powerful voice in her church.
She taught her granddaughter to read and write by the time she was five.
And although she and her family were poor - the love, care and magic she gave made the whole family rich.
In 1965, she was left behind by her family when they moved to the United States.
The void her family has felt from her absence is painful because her love is so great.
